Gluteous Medius Syndrome

Gluteous Medius Syndrome usually occurs with pronated feet and the longer of two legs. Pain and tenderness is located above the greater trochanter. Excessive pronation causes excessive internal rotation of the lower extremity which stresses the gluteus medius muscle. Custom biomechanical orthotics to balance the foot may provide relief. Also leg length discrepancies should be addressed. These patients should also seek the services of a Physical Therapist as daily stretching and strengthening of the hip abductors can be beneficial.
