Orthotics to help with osteoarthritis

What actually causes a metatarsal stress fracture?

It’s an interesting question, because the most common answer you might hear is not what many people imagine it to be. It’s easy to imagine that a fracture would be caused by a general weakness in the specific bone. This can certainly be the case with, for example, rheumatoid patients, but often that is not the actual reason.

It’s more likely that a metatarsal fracture is caused by actions taken by the victim. This might be through overuse, especially if the foot muscles are fatigued. It’s also possible that poor training techniques have been part of the cause. Technically, it’s also possible that there is a misalignment in the bone structure or poor biomechanics. Finally, in sports such as soccer or football, an impact injury can often be the cause.
